Fossil hunter and museum curator

Reginald Walter Hooley was a Winchester businessman and amateur paleontolologist  who later became honorary curator of Winchester Museum. Hooley’s passion for fossil collecting was rewarded first in 1889 when he discovered part of a skeleton of Iguanodon bernissartensis at Brighstone Bay on the Isle of Wight and later in 1914 when he found a new species which he named Iguanodon atherfieldensis (“Iguanodon from Atherfield”).
